Sick Day

Today we are taking a sick day. We both feel something coming on and so I decided it was going to be a lots of rest and fluids kind of day. Because my body responds so strongly to a cold, I am a constant hand-washer, who keeps vitamin c drops in a candy dish and avoids sick people like they are carrying the plague. I eat pretty healthy, and drink tons of water, but when you live with one of those germ magnets, sometimes referred to as children, it can be hard.

I’ve read that those with fibromyalgia tend to have weakened immune systems due to many factors, but intestinal issues are a major contributor. Apparently, 70% of the cells that make up our immune system reside in our gut. Regular gastrointestinal distress from food sensitivities, may also cause trouble absorbing nutrients from the food you eat. But eliminating foods like dairy, gluten, soy and sugar, is only part of the puzzle, finding nutrients and supplements that soothe and restore your gut health is just as important.

For many years, I would buy quality vitamins and never finish a bottle. Vitamins in pill form would slow down my already slow moving system and so I would only take them occasionally. Finally, I started taking a vitamin shake for breakfast. It was a game changer for me, I had more energy and less fatigue. My slow moving system sped up and my monthly cycle went from total hell, to manageable. And here it is March and my body has fought off all but one virus I have been exposed to this winter.

I am currently using True Vitality, a 100% plant based product that contains vitamins, minerals, probiotics, digestive enzymes and omega 3 DHA. No dairy, soy, gluten, GMO or added salt, color or preservatives. I don’t love the taste, but it is not terrible. I use 2 scoops (not the three recommended) in 1 cup of almond/coconut milk, once a day. If you are one of those who has trouble digesting vitamins in pill format, you might want to try out some sort of shake. You can find True Vitality HERE . Note: I am not being paid for this link. 🙂

How do you keep your immune system strong?

I hope you all have a wonderful, healthy week!
