A Monday Medley

I have been flaring for the last week or so. The pain is not extreme, but the fatigue is off the charts. Its 9:00 in the morning and I am already fantasizing about getting into bed tonight. I think it was a combination of painting and sugar intake. I spent many hours painting  the kitchen last week and the week before. I did take breaks, but also pushed myself because I wanted it done and didn’t want the paint in the pan to dry, so I kept going. That and I binged a little on my favorite licorice all-sorts candy last week. I normally avoid sugar, but I never see that candy, so I totally went overboard. 😛

lion_coloring

This lion was my mindful meditation exercise last week. I have always loved to color and have a pretty large collection of adult coloring books. I think coloring is becoming trendy, because you can find a much larger selection now at the craft store. Unfortunately, my thrifty self gets heartburn thinking about a $15 coloring book. Luckily I found this one at TJMaxx (a discount store) for the awesome price of $4.99.

My first Tai-Chi class was this weekend and I loved it. We focused only on the footwork and I am to practice daily for a bit so that next week, we can learn the arm movements. Physically, it took a lot out of me. I was surprised how much concentration and muscle control is required. I think it will be better when we add in the arms because keeping them stationary caused stiffness and pain. Afterwards we did some stretching and I felt pretty amazing for a few hours actually. I am very much looking forward to next week.

veggies

Our veggie garden is finally showing signs of success! This year I turned the plot in the back to herbs only because it just wasn’t getting enough sun. We put a few large pots out front, which gets full sun, and planted cherry tomatoes, orange and yellow bell peppers and a bush variety of cucumber. The marigolds are my not-so-secret trick to pest free gardening. They keep away tomato worms, most beetles and some aphids. So far everything is looking good!

I had my eyes checked the week before last and am waiting for my new glasses to come in. The exam was horrible and left me with a migraine. Mostly because the pressure in one eye was a little high, so they had to examine the optic nerve. I thought the burst of air in the eyeball was bad, but this was much worse, serious discomfort. I still have 20/20 distance and only a slight prescription for reading. I decided to get a progressive lens with a tint, to help with my extreme light sensitive eyes. Wearing glasses all the time is going to take some getting used to, but I got some super funky frames to help motivate me. 🙂

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

xoxo

  1. Hope you get well soon, Rene!
I share your love for coloring too :). But between full-time work and crocheting, I never get any more time to pursue other interests! Seeing your lion has reminded me of my Leisure Arts coloring book that has a similar lion 🙂 I don’t know if I will ever get that book colored.

  3. René, I hope you’re feeling somewhat better by now. 🙂

My eyes are sensitive to the light too, I’m thinking about getting some tinted glasses the next time round (I just use them for driving and sometimes tv).

Your sweet peppers are adorable! I get excited about growing things, but I need to wait till I can have a greenhouse. It’s just too windy in Norfolk – we’re right on the coast of the North Sea – to grow things in my polytunnel.

If I wasn’t writing I might be doing those colouring in books too. It looks relaxing.

Take care ~ and get well soon my friend! xox

    1. Thank you so much ❤ I am hoping the tint helps, mostly when I am in stores/schools/restaurants/doctors offices and such, where the bright lights make me tense. I love to grow things too…but I might give that up to live on the north coast! 🙂 Thank you again, I hope you are well also xox
