Check out my fabulous new pillow covers!
I love how they came out. Before their make-over, they were just a sad pair of gray down pillows and now, they give so much life to our old black leather couch. They even match the colors in the carpet perfectly, which I didn’t realize until after I finished them.
They are made from two panels sewn together like an envelope cover with a buttoned closure. The first panel is the off white, which is a little more than 3/4 the pillows length. The second panel is the darker shade, which has the basket stitch on the front 1/4 cover and then turns into a half double crochet stitch, to complete the back side of the pillow.
I washed everything prior to stitching it together to get a good fit and they are so soft and plush. I think we will really appreciate them when the weather cools down. They are removable and washable, so I am hoping they will be around for a while.
I really do like the basket stitch, it gives a nice texture and adds visual interest to simple pieces. I chose a chunkier version for these, but you can also play with the number of rows and hook size to make the weave look smaller. As I mentioned last week, it is a slow going and yarn hogging stitch, but the end result is worth it.
Happy Friday! Have a great weekend. 🙂
